  • Q A

    How are quotes calculated?

There are three types of hire: Chauffeured, Self Drive and Commercial. For each type of hire, the prices entered by the owner are used to calculate the rental price. A 10% Vinty Service Fee is then added to make the total price.

Chauffeured hire & hourly Commercial hire:

The hourly rental rate for chauffeured or commercial hire is displayed on each car profile. Please note that the hourly rate is applied to the total time of the event: from the point at which the vehicle leaves the owner's garage until the time it returns to the garage. All bookings have a minimum hire price (usually 2x the hourly rate).

Self Drive hire and Commercial daily hire:

For self drive hire, the daily rate is applied to the number of days of your hire. Some vehicles have a delivery option. The price for delivery to the location entered is added to the rental price. The same calculation is used for daily commercial hire.

Check out our Quote Calculation Guide for a step by step overview of how to calculate an instant quote for any vehicle.

Advice for hiring a wedding car

How long does a wedding take?

Everything about a wedding takes time. A lot of time. The bride should arrive five minutes before the wedding begins. A church wedding takes from 30-60 minutes, depending of course on the type of service. A civil marriage usually takes 20-45 minutes. But of course you’ll want to take your time and savour every moment of the big day.

The photographer and the wedding car

The photographer will often use the wedding car as a backdrop to create spectacular wedding day images. These are the images you’ll look back at for many years to come, so it’s important to choose correctly. A professional photographer will know exactly how to use the car for the very best images. They will usually spend about an hour outside the church, whereas a family friend taking pictures may not take so long.

Veteran cars and long wedding trips

A beautiful old vintage car from the 1920s, such as a Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost, is about as romantic as a car can get. However, you should be aware that they often have a maximum speed of 30-50 mph, so journeys can take longer. In city traffic, it’s rarely a problem, but on the open road it will seem extremely slow, so you need to take this into consideration. General running classic cars (cars that are more than 35 years old) go from about 40-60 mph.

    Sports cars

Small fancy sports cars can seem romantic but the reality is often different. Most sports cars are small, low and tight for legroom. This doesn’t tend to mix with big wedding dresses, bouquets and high heels. So before you look at small sports cars, it’s important to examine whether there is room for an elegant entry and exit from the car.

Open wedding cars and the weather

In the summer sun, there aren’t many more romantic ways to arrive and leave your venue than in a beautiful open top car. However, you must ensure that the roof can be raised and locked, in case of a light shower. And be aware that some vintage cars are likely to be affected by heavy rain.

    Self Drive

Driving yourself is really good fun if you're familiar with the car beforehand. This is an impressive sight when you come out of the church, but it’s important that you have a test drive before and know how to tackle driving a Ferrari. Classic cars often require a bit of adaptation and good driving skills.

    Children in the wedding car

This is not always a good idea. Please remember that many classic cars have no seatbelt in the back (this is completely legal), but children must be secured.

    Chauffeur attire

The chauffeur for the wedding drive will typically be discreetly yet elegantly dressed. Please clarify your expectations on suitable dress with the chauffeur when booking your dream car.

    Champagne and decorations

This is quite an individual wedding car service. Some offer both Champagne and decorations, others let you take responsibility for this. Please address your requests with the chauffeur when the car is booked.

    Inspect the vehicle

It's usually possible to inspect the vehicle once the booking has been accepted by the owner. You can contact the owner directly to arrange to see the car prior to your booking, to discuss your expectations with the chauffeur if booked for chauffeured hire, or to ask any questions about the car that you may have.
